Academic advising

Your academic advisor is your guide to your academic experience at IUPUI, from your first day on campus until the day you graduate. He or she will help you make a smooth transition from your previous school to IUPUI, assisting you with things such as transferring credit, planning your course of study, and registering for classes.

You’ll meet your academic advisor at your Transition Orientation Advising Appointment.

Hands-on learning

An instructor observes as a student looks through a microscope.

At IUPUI, there’s a lot more to your academic experience than what you learn in the classroom. The RISE initiative allows you to apply your knowledge and skills in real-world settings by participating in four types of experiences:

  • Research opportunities: conducting research or artistic work under faculty mentorship
  • International experiences: travel and learning outside the United States
  • Service-learning experiences: participation in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs
  • Experiential learning: community-based professional practice activities

After you have completed at least two of the four RISE experiences, your status as a RISE Scholar is noted on your IUPUI transcript.

Career preparation

From choosing a major to landing your first post-college job, IUPUI has resources that will help you through every step of the career development process.

Explore your options

If you’re not directly admitted to one of IUPUI’s degree-granting schools, you’ll start your IUPUI experience in University College. There you’ll work with student success advisors and career consultants from the Academic and Career Development team to identify your interests, pick a major, and develop a plan to achieve your academic and career goals.
