Guide for the Guest Student Application (GSA)

If you have a student who is currently enrolled at IU Indianapolis and wants to take a class at Ivy Tech, they must complete the guest student application.

Ivy Tech guest student application process

Purpose:

IU Indianapolis students can register for and enroll in course(s) at Ivy Tech Community College-Indianapolis Service Area while maintaining IU Indianapolis as their home institution via the Ivy Tech Guest Student Application.

To qualify for the use of the Ivy Tech Guest Student Application, an IU Indianapolis student must be in good standing and concurrently enrolled in at least one course at IU Indianapolis for fall and spring semesters. There is no concurrent enrollment requirement for the summer semester unless the student plans to use the Passport Financial Assistance Agreement.

Deadlines:

  • Preferred Deadline: Five (5) weeks before the start of the course
  • Processing Deadline: One (1) week before the start of the course
  • Final Deadline (not recommended unless extenuating circumstances): Monday before the start of the course
  • If an IU Indianapolis student turns in the Ivy Tech Guest Student Application later than the ‘processing deadline’ above, there is no guarantee Ivy Tech can process the application before the course begins.

*Please contact the Passport Office to confirm deadlines, as they are subject to change per semester.

NOTE: Ivy Tech begins registering for courses one (1) month before IU Indianapolis. It is recommended that students turn in a completed Ivy Tech Guest Student Application as soon as possible.

  1. The Ivy Tech Guest Student Application should be filled out first. IU Indianapolis students are required to provide proof of academic standing with IUPUI by providing Ivy Tech with one of the following: a verification of academic standing form (to be completed by an IU Indianapolis advisor), a current IU Indianapolis transcript, or other written verification. Submitting proof of academic standing will ensure the IU Indianapolis student is in good standing at IU Indianapolis. If the IU Indianapolis student plans to utilize their IU Indianapolis financial aid to pay for the Ivy Tech guest course(s), an IU Indianapolis academic advisor MUST sign the Passport Financial Assistance Agreement.
  2. To view Ivy Tech’s course offerings, visit their course schedule search. You may select multiple Ivy Tech campuses, but if the IU Indianapolis student plans to use the Passport Financial Assistance Agreement, be sure to select an Indianapolis Service Area Location. If you select a course that is not in the Ivy Tech Indianapolis Service Area region, the Passport Financial Assistance Agreement Form cannot be utilized.
  3. Students should submit the Ivy Tech Guest Student Application online directly to Ivy Tech Admissions electronically.
  4. Approximately 7-10 Ivy Tech business days after you have submitted the Ivy Tech Guest Student Application, the IU Indianapolis student will receive an email with instructions on how to log into ‘My Ivy’ to enroll in their Ivy Tech guest course(s). As a reminder, the student must register/enroll in the Ivy Tech course(s) through their Ivy Tech ‘My Ivy’ account; the Ivy Tech Guest Student Application will not automatically enroll the IU Indianapolis student in the Ivy Tech guest course(s).
  5. If the IU Indianapolis student would like to pay for their Ivy Tech guest course(s) with their awarded IU Indianapolis financial aid, the student will also need a Passport Financial Assistance Agreement (process outlined below).
  6. A new Ivy Tech Guest Student Application must be completed every semester and the IU Indianapolis student may only register for the courses listed on the application.

NOTE: Students must receive a minimum grade of "C" or above unless a higher grade is needed as noted by a student's IU Indianapolis academic advisor, for the Ivy Tech course to transfer to IU Indianapolis and apply toward the student’s IU Indianapolis major.
